A requirement was identified by the Department of Fisheries and Ocean (DFO), for the need to dredge both channel and point sections of Malpeque Harbour’s navigation channel (PEI). The contract will be for a Two (2) year period for the Spring Dredge Only, with optional 3rd year.
“The navigational channel into Malpeque harbour, also called Malpeque Cove, is shallow and has needed near-constant dredging for decades. The shallow channel is dangerous for boats and their crews who risk running aground, swamping full of water or capsizing.” – The Guardian.

Following a recent Call for Tenders process by Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC), ECO Technologies was awarded the multi-year contract. The requirement, which aims to remove approx. 25,000m3 of sand (annually) from the navigation channel prior to the spring lobster season in PEI, will help to maintain safe navigational conditions for fishermen throughout the spring fishing season.
The 2021 spring dredging is expected to start in early April, as soon as ice-free conditions are confirmed.
